Exhibit design and installation services

California Educational Multimedia (CEM) offers exhibit design services and installation services. Assistance for installing our California and the Civil War exhibit range of simple 2D plans and elevations to full 3D modeling of the show. CEM can also provide curating and organizational assistance, or work in co-operation with host staff members.

CEM can also design exhibits from scratch (see Wake Up, America! below) for physical installation or for interactive computer display (see Ghost Towns of Placer County).

California and the Civil War installations

The changing gallery and exhibit furniture was measured and photographed. The exhibit was then designed off-site.

The Sons of Union Veterans offered an extensive collection of artifacts and facsimiles for the exhibition. Having a 3D model allowed us to lay out the exhibit and allocate display cases optimally.

The Placer County Museum's changing gallery was already equipped with exhibit hanging hardware and track lighting. Space was limited, so the exhibit was divided into two separate shows, which were presented sequentially.

Wake Up, America! installation

This exhibit had to fit in with the circulation pattern of a busy county government center, where other events were scheduled to take place during the exhibit's run. The building's lobby was modeled and provided an off-site environment in which various graphic panel designs and case placements could be modeled. This advanced planning allowed for efficient installation over a weekend.

CEM was responsible for all design and most curatorial tasks. We also provided text for some of the panels.

Shipping

Exhibit graphic panels are shipped in sturdy, custom-built display cases.

Artifacts from the hosting institution

The exhibit can be enhanced by artifacts and supplemental materials provided by hosting institutions. Or it can stand alone, as was the case in our installation at the Nevada County Government Center (Rood Center) in Nevada City.

Organizations wishing to display the California and the Civil War exhibit can contract CEM for design services. These services can range from simple 2D plans and elevations to full 3D modeling of the show.
